Fibromyalgia and the Soda Pop
Diet
I saw a young woman of 26 years old who was
on the soda pop diet. She drank this beverage to the exclusion
of any food, except for one starchy carbohydrate meal. She was
overweight, but not as much as you might expect. She had two
older children and had just recently delivered twins, so her
life was stressed to say the least.
She had whole body muscle pains and insomnia (aggravated by the
fact that she was still needing to be up at night for the
twins).
I diagnosed her with fibromyalgia, and told her the most
important thing she needed to do was stop sugar and caffeine and
get some aerobic exercise. I also recommended IV ozone therapy
to help correct what I believe to be her basic problem, i.e.,
she is producing energy anaerobically from glucose, with the end
product being an accumulation of lactic acid which causes muscle
pain. I believe she was also using a caffeinated beverage
unwittingly to try to prop up a failing adrenal gland, so I
prescribed adrenal support supplements as well as nutrients
which will help her convert to aerobic or oxygen based
metabolism.
Another very interesting feature of this case is that she had
developed some focal neurologic symptoms and had a CT scan of
the brain done, which revealed temporal lobe damage from two
prior mini strokes! This at age 26!! I am sure the reason for
that was that she took oral contraceptives starting at the young
age of 16 for eight years. She is a real life example of how the
combination of stress, poor life style choices, and dangerous
pharmaceuticals can gang up on someone and destroy their good
health. However, I am confident she will feel much better if she
can make the necessary life style changes, with nutritional
products’ help, and regular ozone therapy.
Knee Pain and Prolotherapy
A 72 year old man came back on his second visit with me and
reported that his knee pain was 80% better after a single
Prolotherapy treatment. He also told me how well prolo had
worked for him before. He had chronic headaches, stiff necks,
limited range of motion of his neck, and a crackling sound when
he turned his neck. He obviously had arthritis in his cervical
spine. Dr Hauser treated his neck several years ago a total of
only three times, and every single one of his symptoms
disappeared! Not everyone will respond so fast, or so
completely, but every day brings a multitude of patient
testimonials that attest to the power that Prolotherapy has over
pain.
Breast
Self-Examination
This piece of information is actually not new, but comes from a
study undertaken in China, with results released about 2 years
ago by the Journal of The National Cancer Institute. The goal
was to determine whether breast self examination saved lives.
The results clearly showed that not only does it not change the
breast cancer mortality or survival rate, it actually leads to
increased false alarms which subject the women practicing the
technique to more biopsies and more risks. Two very large groups
of factory workers (totaling 257,040 women) were employed in the
study. One was trained and frequently reminded to practice
breast self exam, the other was the control group. After several
years the number of breast cancers detected in each group was
almost identical (331 vs 322), the tumors were not detected at
an appreciably earlier stage or smaller size, and the death
rates were equal.
The women in the instructional group detected more benign
lesions (1457 vs 623) than the control group. This, of course
lead to more biopsies (not a good thing) and no doubt a lot more
anxious moments for women. Breast self exam simply doesn’t work.
See your doctor periodically for an exam, and forget about
formal breast self examination.
